I run a column company in MA and we have about 250 flatbed truck runs from Maine to Del. per year. We use common carriers now. I would like to buy 4 trailers and have owner operators come in and take the loads then deliver the trailer back to me. Would this be possible and how would I find the O/O? Thank you.

Why buy your own trailers? Trailers are about $16-18K a piece, maybe more depending on how you spec them.
1. How would you know that you'd get your trailer back? Are you wanting O/O's to lease on with your company?
2. Have you considered the cost of buying plates and maintaining these trailers?
3. What's your insurance company say about leasing on trucks or letting outside trucks drag your trailers?
4. Who provides load securement equipment? If you do, will it all come back? Will it all come back in the same condition it left in?
There's probably a bunch more questions that I didn't think of, but to me, it would seem cheaper and easier (less hassle), if you just found trucks with their own trailers.
