Canadian truckers threaten strike over fuel costs
Truckers in British Columbia are threatening to bring that Canadian province to a screeching halt if the Canadian government does not do something to stem the rising costs of diesel.
More than 300 unionized and non-unionized truckers met in Vancouver on Sunday, April 24, to express their outrage about increasing fuel costs. The truckers suggested several possible solutions, including tax rebates, tax refunds or a boycott of oil companies until they bring prices down.
Another meeting is set for May 1 in Surrey, British Columbia, where truckers expect to formulate a plan of action.

GET YOU SOME GLASES EAGLE
THERE ARE NON-UNION TRUCKERS AS WELL
read the hole post
unions have no business in the trucking business
let elberate a liitle more if non-union driver does what a union says to do then they become union drivers!
where truckers expect to formulate a plan of action
We would be very interested to see what this plan of action is! Yesterday, while listening to the sat radio trucking show, we heard that fuel is expected to go to $4.00 per gallon! Something has to break here....soon...
I don't think that people look at the overall picture when it comes to the high cost of fuel. Truck sales, or the lack thereof, for one thing... we aren't going to even think about spec'ing another truck at this time.
I for one hope the fuel surcharge legislation at least goes through!

The last time BC had a truck shutdown it was at the docks...truckers that lines up for hours and hours on end at no pay just to get a can loaded on them.
I recall that it was the Teamsters ( Ed Zimmerman) stepped in and helped them organize it better without asking a single owner operator to join the Union. Guess what, they now get paid by the hour and the rates are approved by the Commission that is in charge of the docks.
If you haven;t tried it.....don't knock it.

Maybe if you were actually in the trucking industry, you might actually know what you're talking about. :yikes:
The union represent drivers, of trucks, not owners of them..
You gotta watch a little less trucking movies, then you might base your observations, in reality, instead of fantasy.. :wtf:
the truck that was in my sig line is my truck and when i get it out of the shop you will be singing a different song cuz no union will represnt me and turn around and tell me how to run my truck or what to haul nothing cuz i am truly indapendant and when it comes to hauling asphault will never see a union insigina on my truck unions jack up the price of business for a trucker that drives up everything that a driver does and will need to to the job right i will run my truck put more miles on then a union driver cuz i don't like to sit still if i am on the road i must be rolling unions don't like my view on this. union representives do not like me because the way i think i think as a inedpendant trucker they hate that the unions want to have total control if i follow what a union says i become a union driver and in that i become a sell out and i an not a sell out. in school while everyone whent with what the teacher said i was busy disproving what the teacher was saying as fact because i an not and will never sell out to the union side or follow the establishments

I don't know how Canada sets it fuel prices , but down here in the U.S. the only involvement for the government has for fuel is taxes. The rest is based on supply and demand . Also we have a problem with not having enough refineries in the U.S. A new one hasn't been built in about thirty years plus any closures that didn't help.

Their only involvelment up here is also in Taxes only.
The Federal governemnt charges 4 cents a liter excise Tax and provinces charge a lot mote.
Alberta is 9 cents, BC and Saskatchewan are 15 cents a liter etc.

Price of gas at the pumps has dropped 10 cents a liter in the past week in Edmonton. That's about 29 cents US per US gallon.
