I happened to catch the news this morning and seen the video and interview with the 64 year old retired teacher.

What's your take on this situation?

If it's proven the guy is innocent, them officers need to be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Hopefully that lady will be found and testify for the guy that was beaten.
NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (CNN) -- A retired teacher injured during a videotaped beating by New Orleans police says he feels no anger toward the department.

"I hold no animosity against anyone. I want to thank the new police chief for his quick action. I really do," 64-year-old Robert Davis said Tuesday.

Three officers have been suspended and local and federal authorities have launched investigations into the October 8 incident.

Joseph Bruno, the attorney for Davis, said his client does not believe the assault was racially motivated.

"I know there is a big temptation to go there, but my client firmly believes that is not what is involved here," Bruno said in an interview.

Instead, Bruno said, Davis believes he was assaulted by "a couple of rotten apples that need to be dealt with."

I saw the video of the beating and also the additional video of the officer and the producer. I did not see anything that the guy did on video that would justify that action. I certainly was not there and can only speak from my observations that were shown on that tape. I hope that a complete unbiased investigation is under way and that the results are made public as soon as it is completed. The officers involved have been relieved of duty and charged criminally in the case indicating to me that the city can not justify what they did either.

Upon completion of this investigation and the subsequent criminal case, if they are found guilty, they should be punished to the full extent of the law. There is no room in our profession for this type of behavior to be ignored.

Just my opinion...Be safe.

i agree moonrunner,i beleive the mounted officer ought to be charged with something as well(i dunno if he was or not) as he tried to hide what was going on from the camera

You can forget anything happening to the mounted officer, he was doing crowd control. and of course the horse may have made the move on its own. so for the mounted officer . NADA,

The horse maybe. It can go back to the academy for additional training. :) suspended for 2 days and no oats for those 2 days.

As for one of the other. What I saw was repeated blows with a right arm of one of the officers towards the face and head of Mr Davis.
With all the officers in attendance, why so much aggressiveness. One old man and several younger, much, younger officers.
no sobriety test offered, I think that the public drunkenness charges
will be dropped.
Mr Davis has a good attitude about this whole thing, but pizz him off and he could be a very ruch man.

Will it be gently handled or will the stress of Katrina become an alibi and reason to go off the deep end. Seems like the LEOs could claim a dysfunctional childhood, combine that with the stress of Katrina and it is ok to beat and loot. It seems to work for crooks. Blame your parents.
We will have to hide and watch.

I think that would cost your your job, if not certification around here.

One thing to remember--

It is always easier to look back and "what if" a situation.
