Crown 500: Known for their next-to-imposible starting in cold weather with the old Mercedes engine!

Super: Wasn't always too super! Ironically, I still see those in service on occasion.

Sentry 2000: Was a decent unit, but the Isuzu C-201 engine & unit design was noisy. The long belt from the engine crank pulley to the fan idler was notorious for wearing out fast & squealing. The doors would often not stay latched shut either.

SB-I: This was a much better unit than the Sentry 2000. Quieter (except at low speed when the doors rattle). Putting a new starter motor in one of these (behind the engine) was a fun job too! Got to add water to the radiator?? Break out he ladded

SB-II: The basic design of these units led up to the SB-IIIs and even some Whisper Edition units. Was easier to work on.

I just saw & heard an SB-1 unit yesterday!

I run a SB 210 and it it soooo quite that if someone is idiling next to me I almost can't hear it! Those are older units but when was the last time you saw a NWD 30? Now that was a loud unit!!!!

SNWD 30 (SUPER 30) was probably the best unit ever made.

Some of the new ThermoKing's we have, sometimes I wonder if the thing is still running, specially when I have it on continuous...its that quiet. But when I'm pulling a Carrier....I always know she's running.

Just 4 years ago I pulled a 1982 model SNWD 30 TK Sentry unit off my Trailer it had 28000 hrs on it and could still keep O degrees in a 48/102 box anytime of the year ,it had the same size compresser as the TK SBIII I put on ,only plus was the space saver in the nose. BTW Boss302 What would be the best freon to run in the SBIII unit if I change freon right now Im running R408A freon is this the coldest I can run or can I run Colder freon? as lately Ive been getting alot of frozen that they want at Minus 10 Degrees, my unit has about 7000 hrs on it and perform good could be a little quieter thow. And WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!!

I take it that it was an R502 unit. If that is the case they are usally converted to R402a. It should do a pretty decent job with that. I haven't seen many converted to R408a. I believe that is supposed to be equivalent to 502 also. Thermo King said to convert to R402a (HP80).
