Jury Returns Death Sentence in GI Killings

By ESTES THOMPSON
FORT BRAGG, N.C. (AP) - A military jury sentenced a soldier to death Thursday for a grenade and rifle attack on his own comrades during the opening days of the Iraq invasion, a barrage that killed two officers and that prosecutors said was driven by religious extremism.

Sgt. Hasan Akbar, who gave a brief, barely audible apology hours earlier, stood at attention between his lawyers as the verdict was delivered. He showed no emotion.

I was in Kuwait when this happened. I saw him at Kuwait IAP in the custody of the MP's waiting for a flight to Germany and then on to the states. He was under heavy guard for his own protection. The senior leadership was concerned that he would be killed before he faced his court martial.

I know seeing him, and knowing what he did, made my blood boil.

The last U.S. military execution was in 1961.I doubt they'll be injecting him any time soon.

True, there's 5 prisoners on 'Death Row' at Leavenworth now.

there is no need for our service men and women to be killing each other so the one who took the lives of his commards now will pay the ultimnate price

Sgt. Hasan Akbar

The name alone should have been a red flag. But no, we can't do that , we might offend somebody. Better people die than for anyone to get offended. :vmad: :vmad: :vmad:
