View Full Version : Hello All --- Buying truck out-of-state ?

I know this may sound like a real basic question (that I probably SHOULD know the answer to!) but, when buying a truck from a private party out-of- state what do I need in the way of permits to get back legally?
I live in Cal and will be buying the truck some 2000 miles away and will be bobtailing back. Do have insurance in place.
Thanks for any help, and Happy Thanksgiving to All!

First off, welcome aboard SoCal Paul.
If you're going to be leasing it on with a company, they should be able to provide you with temporary permits and such.
Otherwise, if I'm not mistaken, you'll have to do some leg work and get your own plates and such to get it home.

Thanks Dave. Wonder if I would be better off using one of the "Drive Away" Companys to get it here?

First Wecome,Second I also live in CA. MAKE SURE you bring the truck into calif. with a load on it if you are going to run interstate ,you will not have to pay the CA. sales tax on it that way.
