I am 32 years old married to my wife for a year but been dating off and on for 9 years. We have 1 child together ( 8 months old ) I adopted her two children 3 and 4 they only know me as dad. Been with them since the girl was 16 months old and the boy was 4 months old . I have two from a previous marriage boy 11 years old and the girl 6 years old they both live with their mother who is a real winner. I get to see them well let me re-phrase that suppose to see them every other week when its convient to their mother. I have had a class A license since 1993. All my driving has been primarily florida. Occassionally alabama , georgia , and north carolina . I am currently working for a towing outfit working 24/7 365 days a year. I tow the big rigs when they brake down , get stuck , or need a pull start ( jump start ) . Hauling equipment on a 53' drop deck and a 53' landhall flatbed trailer. Been in the heavy trucks off and on for 12 years and towing for 10 years. So being gone from home or doing this type of life style my family is use to to a certain point. Meaning that the towing aspect is your gone but your home some nights but not knowing when the next call is coming. You don't really have set days off especially if someone quits or doesn't come in. I am trying to do what is the best for my family and looking for the right company to give me a chance. Benefits , money , and home time wise. This was my thinking so don't critise me too bad. I heard of otr driving making good money and having good benefits. Where I am at now there is nothing but a pay check and 24/7 365 days working. So I figured doing otr ( outside of always wanting to do it ) driving to make good money with benefits and trying to retire from otr in approx 20 years. Does this sound possible or just make belief ? I have no retirement and all I know how to do is drive tractor/trailer or towing. Please help me and not to poke fun at me to bad. :harhar:

If your driving records clean you should be able to get into almost any trucking company.Do some research maybe take a few days off and visit a few companies.I believe with the experience you have you shouldn't have trouble finding a decent company that will fit your needs. You certainly don't need to go to a company looking for "beginners".Good Luck

First of all, where do you live? That will help us to help you.

I made some suggestions in another of your posts as to what I would think would be ideal for a family man who wants to be home & make a nice living with retirement benefits.

In addition to what I mentioned in that other post, depending on where you live, there may be some good local jobs out there (LTL outfits, Foodservice Delivery outfits, etc).

When starting OTR, the pay isn't too great the first year, and the time away from your family can often put a lot of strain on your relationship with them.
