HR 4437 - Border Protection Anti-Terrorism and Illegal Immigration Control Act 2005

This bill is still being debated on the House floor. Several amendments have yet to be discussed. The final vote could come later this evening or possibly even tomorrow morning. This bill would "beef up" enforcement at the borders and would help get a handle on the flood of illegal aliens that cross the US border daily.

Opponents, primarily the US Chamber of Commerce, ATA, etc., are trying to scuttle the bill or at the very least add the guest worker provision that's been discussed previously.

All truckers are urged to call their US Representative and urge the Representative to vote "yes" on HR 4437 and to reject efforts to include a guest worker provision.

To be connected with your Representative's office, you can call the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121.

Much agreed. We have to plug the holes in the borders. My family immigrated LEGALLY in the 50's (I'm first generation on my mother's side born here), got their citizenship and spoke English in public.
They did not expect Americans to learn German to appease them, nor did they rely upon the government to provide medical care, food, housing, etc. I cannot count how many times I backed into a produce dock to pick up a load and was unable to communicate with the workers. I always thought the language spoken here was English, not Spanish.
It's not only the drain on our resources that irritate me. It's the fact that terrorists and other criminals can freely cross the border to commit their crimes.
Too much time and money is spent trying to appease illegals and not enforcing existing laws.
I'm also disappointed that the Patriot Act was shot down, but that's for another post.........

The current policy has little to do with "appeasing" illegals as much as it is making it easier for the members of the US Chamber of Commerce to obtain cheap labor and for the real Republicans ( the ones who can afford to be one) to have cheap domestic services.

I have not read the above mentioned bill, but I doubt it will make it through the legislative process if it has some real provisions. A lot of money is spent, mostly on GOP politicians, to make sure the US Chamber gets what they want.

You're probably right Lars.

Just the other day, out of curiosity, I asked the guy on the forklift what he made per hour (at a produce warehouse in Nogales AZ). He said, "$6.50 an hour". He also said that every employee is 'cut off' at 30-35 hours a week with no hope of any overtime.

From the sounds of it, his employer has an endless supply of willing workers. :wtf:

At that rate, why would any employer pay more? :wtf:
