oil pan

i have an '03 t-600. I have noticed an oil leak coming from the oil pan. Is it the gasket that went bad? Or could it be something else? Thanks in advance.

The best I can do is suggest that you steam off the whole engine and especially the oil pan.
Run the truck a few miles and look for the leak.
Even in the daylight use a strong flash light to see under the hoses and other stuff in the way items.

If it is the gasket you will see it. If it is a crack in the pan you will find it too. I could be a pump. or a return line. A clean engine is the only way to find a problem right away.

It may be oil from up front somewhere else on the engine. The fan and wind from running down the road will move the oil and may look like it coming from here but is really coming from there.

That is why I always shut my engine off when fueling.
#1- it's the law
#2- I look for leaks of all kinds, air, water, oil.

The engine may have developed a leak 10 miles up the road, I would much rather find it at a fuel island than on the side of the road.

Could be a few things other than a pan gasket , in the past month I have had 2 O/Os with oil pan leaks , 1 turned out to be a loose oil filter that seeped down and dripped onto the lip of the oil pan then ran along it and dripped down , the other turned out to be a split in the timing gear cover and again it would seep down onto the lip of the oil pan and looked like a gasket failure.


If you cannot steam clean / pressure wash around the pan get a spray can of BRAKE CLEAN it does a good job of cleaning things up.

I have a few T600's and have never had a gasket leak on the oil pan, what motor do you have ?

I have cat c-15. I took it into the shop today. it was a hose that was loose coming from the power streering. They also fixed a couple other little things today.
