View Full Version : Large Cars

As many of you already know, I am working on a plan to get my own truck again.

I am considering a Large Car.

The amenities offered by this type of tractor would be quite welcome in light of idling laws and the conditions present in most truckstops. Also, since I don't have a home to go to, it would become my, more or less, permanent home-on-the-road.

My predicament is that my internet searches, and visual scans of used truck lots as I run the road, have revealed no used large cars.

I am not about to get back into my own truck by buying a new truck, especially a large car. So, any assistance with locating the used large car market would be appreciated.

These are both nice.
The 2005 is just toooooo nice.

The 1999 might be more in my price range, once I'm ready.
By then it will be gone, but others will come along.

Search the truck paper for dealers. Shelby Elliott handles lots of large cars. Got a retired showtruck in there this week. 99 KW W900L with a 165" sleeper and only 50,000 miles on it. They ONLY want $ 165,000 for it.

There was 2 379's at the Pete dealer in LittleRoc last month. Both white and had at least 120" sleepers on them.

David wants a "Mansion on Wheels" (something that has a sleeper bigger than most people's homes).

Naa, just enough room to be comfy, stretch my legs and have my own toilet. Maybe a shower, too.

I got no home to "go to" so I might as well make myself "at home on the road".

okay, okay, this is a little late in coming but I'm new here so you'll have to forgive me...

If you want to buy a used big bunk, your best bet is to talk to people who own them. Generally they don't list them for sale- they sell them to a guy they know who wants to buy it. They are in pretty high demand (considering the mark up on the brand new ones...) so you'll have to network a little to find one used.

We have one and I can tell you that having your own "facilities" is absolutely the BOMB! I don't mean that in a homeland security way, either.

I haven't taken a truck stop shower in almost 4 years. Our shower is larger than the average big bunk and we have a larger hot water tank so we don't take a "camper" style shower. It's really nice- especially when you've been working on your truck or when you're down in Miami or LA somewhere.

It's really nice at night, too, so you don't need to make that midnight potty run...

Go to Landstar's website, go to LCAPP link and go to For sale by owner. Every so often, a L/S Owner Operator will sell one in advance of the new ride getting there.
