A friend of mine has a truck leased to them. He says you can keep as busy as you want to be. Also that those loads you see on their freight board are mostly ones that they farm out. The better loads your handler finds you. This is all what someone else says, I don't know it for fact at all, but by hearing about Mercer from my friend I would have to say that if... I wanted to do the O/O thing, and if... I didn't want to get my own athority, Mercer, or maybe even Landstar might be the way to go.

I never have done any dealings with Mercer but I do know that every time I mentioned Mercer had a load on the load board to dispatch I was told, "Mercer freight is always cheap." And that was not always the same dispatcher with the same company. Just my 2 cents worth.

I was hoping to be there by now but........I've called several times last week they tell everything "looks good I'll call you back" this is the 4th week since I applied. Thinking about options this VERY moment :fishing:

NO tickets for 16 years
NO accidents 11 years

They must be busy.......hope they hurry getting hungry.

An aquaintance is leased on with them and has been for years. He lives up near Massena,NY and has a 'circle' that he has run for more years than I care to count. Mercer freight is not necessarily cheap as I have pulled a bit myself and found favorable and unfavorable rates there as well as other places. They are a pain it the rear to trip lease with since every time I deal with them it seems that it's been just long enough time for them to purge our insurance info from their records. Then I have to wait (sometimes hours :vmad:) for them to get the info straight. Now this won't be the case if you are leased on with them but I am giving you my personal experience.

They're probably slow as is most of the good paying open freight right now

I pulled a load out of Hazleton, PA. once, which was one of 3 loads going out to Detroit at the Airport. The 2 other trucks were Mercer trucks.

Not to say they're all the same, but these two drivers seemed to think they were better than me. They spoke to me with a sour tone, and just seemed to be looking down their noses at me.

Later, when they found out I was getting $1.65 a mile, and they were only getting $1.45 a mile, they didn't seem too happy. On top of that, they were pulling their own trailers, and I was pulling my company's trailer.

Mercer might be a good company, but there are better ones out there. The trick is finding them.

Fann check out Great American Lines. They have an office in Henepin (sp), Illinois and one in Birmingham and several others. A friend of mine has both of his trucks leased to them and he's in Mississippi. He does alright.

Landstar is a great company. You just gotta jump thru hoops to get on with them. Plus they are not your ordianry company. You dispatch yourself. So when you get the "load from Hell" you can't blame anyone but yourself!

Funny, I was sitting at the Hook in Dallas Wednesday night and Thursday morning and bumped into two hsband/wife teams that drove for Mercer. The first I bumped into at the chrome shop across the street driving a beautiful `81 W900 and asked them how they liked driving for Mercer. They said they had driven with Mercer for 13 years and were extememly happy, and making good money too. The other was a couple driving an orange Pete with a 110" sleeper on back. When I asked how they liked Mecer they asked if I wanted to go inside the Hook and have some coffee with them. The wife said she would bring in her recent settlement statements to show me. I must admit that they were doing REALLY well. had a recent load going from VA to CA and it paid a little over $7400. They were averaging over $1.55 for ALL miles. Nice couple too!
