Well I just got the news today that I get a grant to pay the $3000.00 for the trucking school I am going to attend and I go talk to Doug Edwards tomorrow to find out when I get to start school.
Since I work throught the week I will be going on Saturdays and Sundays from 7:00am till 5:30 pm for 8 weeks and after that I am looking into KTL Transportation or Roehl to pull a flatbed or Drive team with a O/O friend and pull reefer for Willis Shaw....
I have been waiting for this a LONG time now I FINELY get to make it happen....

Lady KW, congrats!!!! Can't say that I envy you. Attending school on Saturdays and Sundays, plus working too.

I don't mean to insult your intelligence, and I don't know what school you'll be attending, but don't expect to learn much more than the basics for passing the driving test and the written tests for your CDL. When I went through school, I expected to learn more than that, and was kind of disappointed. Guess I shouldn't have read the book the state puts out before attending the class.

Let me tell you about my experience with KTL. They tend to troll the schools pretty hard (the recruiters that is). They wanted to meet with me. and my fellow classmates at the CDL school I attended (none of us were interested). So the recruiter set the appointment with the administrator. We come off the road to meet with the guy and he no shows. I got a little upset with that becasue I was paying my own way through the course, and didn't like missing the course work to meet with the guy in the first place, and then he goes and no shows. I wrote a letter to KTL saying that if they needed drivers so bad, they outta show up for appointments. My instructor told me later that I didn't miss anything by not meeting this guy.

So, congrats on starting this new phase of life. .

Congratulations
I wish you the best.

My advice is to not start out with an O/O. But do a company truck first. if you screw up you won't have an o/o hammering you for repairs he has to do and blames you..
You get Bennies at the company level too.
Just my 2 cts worth .

Again congrates to you ,

Congrats and good luck!
I went to school at night after working all day for 2 weeks. My hardest part was backing that big truck. But I stayed with it and have been driving 6 years, oh my it doesnt seem that long but I guess it is.

After school I got a job with a local short haul company, they trained me for a month and was ready to put me into my own truck. Well I felt I wasnt ready and asked for several more weeks with a trainer. They did that, then my husband bought our own truck and I quit the company.

I hated that, but then I was with him and that was good. But he had one heck of a time with me. Said that school didnt teach me anything, I still had doubts about my backing. I can laugh at all that now but back then it wasnt to funny.

So learn everything you can, and the best advise I can give you is do everything ever so slowly. Take your time and always be alert.

You gotta let us know how school is going for you. Best of luck
