Let's see if we can make this the best Forum in here. How about some recipies that can be made on the road. Or maybe we could tell some of our "War Stories". Let's make it happen girls!

ya mean those stories like..........being a newbie behind the wheel of a 18wheeler going down the rockies on a cold and snowy night crying because your so dayum afraid?? or the means ya have to goto sometimes just to take a p** along side a busy interstate when theres no bathroom to be found.......thank God for small funnels and gallonjugs.........LoL :
I'm sure we all have something to share............including the a**hole attitudes of males in recieving and shipping deptments that look @ U and say "may I help you, r u lost.........oh you have a trailer of cable for me??????" while they look totally dumbfounded that your driving a rigg and they stand there and watch you release the binders and ask " did you secure that load yourself??????? I'm a flatbedder and a peanut too boot so they really do not comprehind a female leading this kind of life.........for me I've never been happier!! p mic

I understand just how you feel copper. I was one of the first female solo flatbedders. I love going to job sites and watching their faces when they keep looking for the man to get out and help unload and he never does.
I had one guy tell me in a small place north of Milwaukee to go back to the truck and send my husband out there. I told him I was all he had. He insisted that I go get my husband up and send him in to check in. He then informed me that he didn't deal with women. I told him he was in deep doggy doo doo then cuz there just wasn't nobody else in that truck! Then it really went to he!! in a handbasket! He called me everything but a Child of God! So I told him to just load the trailer and toot the horn when it was time for me to secure the load and sign the bills. He got back at me tho'. He loaded all 47,000 lbs of those slinkys on the front of my trailer. Thank goodness for sliding tandems in that particular instance! It took me 4 trips thru the scales at the J in Gary to get it legal. But in the end I got even. I talked to the reciever and that guys supervisor. In return for me not filing a sexual harrassment suit, they fired him. I was satisfied.

FF, why are there no more women posting here? I had high expectations for this place. I always used to get a kick out of whenever I unloaded (2nd time otr in '92) I had my 5 yr old daughter with me and the guys would also ask where is hubby---told them I couldn't afford one!! Also used to be the only woman hauling cattle out of AL in '77 or '78. Had to make my first driver teach me how to load and unload--he didn't think I should be back there, ha ha. Just want some women drivers to talk to..

I miss hanging out with the girls. Ive met some really nice women drivers on the road and then Ive met some that are just plain scary. Ive had other women drivers hit on me :yikes: :yikes: Glad i had a fast truck.
FF Ive gotten the same treatment as you at the dock. Get looked at like your a piece of fresh meat. Some of the guys dont understand why I wont go into certain areas and stay the night at the customers.
I get told the same things you belong home in the kitchen making biscuts :yikes: I really blow their minds when I tell them Im an O/O and my truck and trailer is almost paid for.Next April girls it will be all paid for  woohoo.
Some of those guys at the round table need supervision :harhar: :p thats probally why most of us women are up there.or just to see what happens next.
Girls have a great 4th and drive safe :D

Take one can or small envelope of chicken, put in bottom of foil loaf pan that fits into Burton oven. Top with lightly crushed nacho chese chips almost to top of pan. Take a can of cream of whatever soup (I have used cream of mushroom, chicken or that new pepperjack cheese) a drained can of Rotelle tomatoes and some hot water and a chicken bullioun cube to make about 2 cups of liquid. Pour over chips and chicken. Top with grated Mexican blend cheese and Burton for about 25-30 minutes. Let set for about 10 minutes before digging in. Yum!

LindaLou, do all the drunks still go out to exit 325 (I think) truck stop after the bars close in Waco? Back in my younger days, I used to go out there sometimes. I lived in Waco for a few years, don't miss it a bit---all the college kids that have never had to work a day in their lives. I waitressed for a few years and then got on with Bayly Blue Jeans driving for the home town trucking company, the basically only one back in around '77. My Mom still lives in Killeen so Lorena is on the way down there. You're darn near a neighbor.................

Okay... a recent invention.....ummmm....make that recipe my brother really liked... did well on stove top and should cook equally well in foil lined lunch box oven for OTR:

one can 'nibblet' cut corn(drain before completely removing lid)
one can Rotell
one small can boneless chicken
one can sliced water chestnuts (adds texture and 'crunch')
stir through and heat thouroughly
(After heated through well, I added another can of creamed corn..but this was on stove top in large boiler.... may be too much for lunch box... and cream corn tends to stick if not watched and stirred..)
Add whole wheat bread on top.... crumble if you like (OTR substitute for 'dumplings)
Add pepper jack cheese cubes to top and cook till melted....Serve up and enjoy.
Share with another and enjoy twice as much! :)

Hello Ladies....I have never driven a trk...I run the office for our company...lookin for loads...book work...so on and so forth...BUT I am thinkin bout letting our O/O's go and just getting on the trk with my hubby and we run, as I fired our last company driver a coupla weeks ago and put hubby on the trk. I think it would be a lot less stressful...or at least him drive and I can load us and do the paperwork from the trk...and of course help him with tarping and things of this nature...all our kids are grown...and the only pets left are our cat, who is inside outside independent critter...and my son's snake who takes very little care and only has to be fed bout twice a month...My worry is leaving the house...we live in a isolated spot...and a bad guy could sure tote off everything...so thinkin' bout an alarm system for both the house and the shop...how bout ya'll???...what do ya'll do bout securing the homestead while gone???....food is another thing...so I'm takin notes here...hmmm...how about a camp fire dinner...we used to fix em camping...take a heavy duty pc of foil ..and a burger patty or chicken breast...slice up onions, carrots, taters, little water...little salt and pepper....and wrap it up....Hubby said he did this long time ago and put it on the engine and at the end of the day he had a meal ready to eat.... :wow: .....hmmmm....I figure it will cost bout $5,000.00 to get a lap top, mount a desk, air card, inverter, security system for the homestead, a frig for the trk (2001 KW W900 w/ a studio sleeper 76" ), Coffee pot, small microwave...plus I want to rip out the carpet in the trk and replace it...we have had it cleaned but it still looks gross...seats are still good...and the couch, but the mattress will have to be replaced...What do ya'll think???

Interesting.
You already decided you have a budget of 5K to spend.
You have an idea of what you want for OTR.
Prioritise items and price whats available.
If you have time to shop sales.... start acquiring if its needed or useful... whether or not plans move forward... Security system for the homestead?
Best security there is is usually someone living in home....

If located out in the boonies... might consider getting a house sitter or rent out house. Most important items might be storaged with items of sentiment carefully wrapped against moisture with gel packets. ...... But this may be ahead of things.... You may prefer to give it a trial run before going so deep into a committment on the road that may involve renters and leases.... and a gamble that you have renters that will take care of things, pay rent on time, and let you know quickly if maintenance issues arise before they progress to major repqirs.

Mail stop on the local route and establish a PO Box for all deliveries...done well in advance of moving on the road is less likely to alert others of vacant conditions. Establishing routine lawn care with a private individual that you trust... so that appearance of place is not a billboard telling others that your home is vacant. If you trust someone with a copy of your keys, have them visit at irregular times to check on house, inside and out....... Establish what entrance they will use... the areas they will check, how they will contact you and/or authorities if something is amiss... If local law enforcement is trust worthy... might see if they or the sheriffs department have a watch program that they will check your place from time to time..... and list it with them alnog with contact info to reach you and your representative in the community should a need arise.

Maintain utilities... lights on timers... maintain some heat/ac.... for the condition of the house sake.. Pull main electrical switches to stove, hot water heater. Consider turning off water on the inside... (and remember the hot water heater to turn off) and cut off gas...if that utility is used....but consider to maintain some available water connection on outside.... just incase issues of fire arise. Unplug every thing not being used during your absence.

If your out on the road for weeks at a time and house is empty.... expect to find dust and cobwebs growing where you never expected... around cabinet doors in the kitchen, for example. (One would think there'd be no dust without folks coming and going, and a house shut up..... but this will surprise you!)

Many drivers like nice carpeting in truck.... but, if you're tearing out carpet anyway....considering the maintenance, and cleaning if there are spills.... rubber covering on the floors is easier to sweep with whisk broom..... Commode rug fits nicely around the shift boot. Throw rugs makes a soft warm landing for cold feet.... and easy to shake out and clean......Just and idea.... and personal preference. And speaking of 'commode'... It takes up space, but can serve as an 'automann' until needed.... but the convienence of a camp style port-a-pot is welcomed if ever there a case of the 'runs'.... Walmart sells the blue packets of digestives/deodorizers for the tank.. that will help till you get to a rest area or bath room to dump it...

Do you have some activity like knitting or crochet... reading books, etc. The miles may be longer than the paperwork... and many drivers dont need the assistance of a mouth running the jump seat all the time..... Just a thought. Wireless connections are not consistant either.... so having some else to fill the void...might help. The space inside a truck is limited...and close... There is no escaping when the company(companion ship) tires...if it does, or one goes into a 'mood'.... how well do you weather the closness at such times.... you most certainly will find out if you don't know already. Can you each remain comfortable with each other...knowing that the other is feeling a little ill at the moment. If he's the driver... but you're doing 'the business' can you let him be 'the boss' and do the essentials without needing his attention for everything? As you learn and pick up on things.... is he likely to see you joining in as an interruption to his work..... or as an asset of the second pair of hands... he thought he'd never have... (I say this because.... I've been amazed at the resentment of some people at work over such minor things....while there are others that like to work that way... and it makes it like a dance, where two minds are linked in syncrasy with one goal in mind of getting the job done.) You will be confined to the work place all of the time...but do you both have interest that you can use to 'carry each other away from the work' to divide your time so you can share some fun together without work on brain, always....?...... Just some thoughts...

As for the pets?.... A snake is always a good deterrent for an intruder in a truck.... but personally..... well....let some one else talk awhile....

Whatever you decide...good luck to you!

McGee, you didn't scare me a bit. Been there done that and still doing it. I used to have my so called best friend staying with me and when she left she ripped me off for a few hundred dollars. you could use this as an option. Go out with him for a couple of trips then stay home and get everything done then go back out. I read a lot and swap books with some of the girls in the office and if you can go to lawn sales etc you can find books dirt cheap like 25 or 50 cents. I get so know I swing by the house on the way in and water my house plants and empty out the mailbox.
There aint no place like home after being out on the road for a couple of weeks :D
