Alfson Trucking, Blue Earth MN.

The good: Close to home, nice folks to work with..........

The bad: They booked cheap freight to keep drivers moving, erratic pay due to inconsistant dispatching.

KB Trucking, N. Mankato MN

The good: Nice people to work for, Closer to home, paid each week, roughly the same mileage each week so the pay was pretty consistant.

The bad: They went outta business owing me about $10K for 3 runs I made. I got suckered into believing they were 'really' nice people that would make things right. they didn't. I did finally get almost all the $$$ owed to me though.

I won't list the last company I was leased to because I still have friends that are there.

I can tell you that they were fair and very easy to work with. The pay was ok when I was there. If I wouldn't have had major problems with my truck or if I would've decided to buy another truck, I'd most likely still be there.

If I ever do buy another truck, they'll be the first company I talk to. They are based out of Minneapolis MN.

Graebel Van Lines (my current home)

Pros: Steady revenue stream due to the high amount of corporate contracts they have, quick settlements (usually within 48 hours of receiving paperwork)

Cons: Surveys that aren't even close to the actual weight, some dispatchers who aren't worth their weight in pizz.

Cowan Systems (San Antonio, TX agent) (This was, by far, my best Owner-Operator gig, and I'd go back if I ever wanted to buy another truck).

Pros: Home daily, good revenue on freight.
Cons: Local & Intermodal Work is hard on trucks.

Paschall Truck Lines, Murray, KY

Pros: None
Cons: Rude dispatchers.

Lane Freight, Houston, Texas

Pros: Home weekends, friendly people.
Cons: Freight wasn't steady enough to make a predictable income.

Landstar Ranger Jacksonville, FL

Pros: Pick own loads off their internet load board (unless an agent calls you), some good paying freight, company has leased dry vans kept in very good condition.
Cons: Takes a while to get to know the agents and get better-paying loads.

U.S. Xpress Chattanooga, TN

Pros: USED TO be a great company. Maintenance Account is nice, you determine how much is deducted and put into it. Builds up fast.
Cons: Computerized dispatch not good for productivity (too many trucks sit around waiting for dispatch).
