View Full Version : Campaign to reduce Fatal Truck Crashes
story here (http://www.wkyc.com/news/news_fullstory.asp?id=34280)
Highway safety experts say car drivers are responsible for about 75 percent of accidents involving trucks.
The new Smart Driver campaign will distribute brochures through insurance agencies and other sponsors with advice for sharing the road. They say drivers should not cut in front of or tailgate trucks and stay clear of a truck’s blind spots, the biggest of which are beside and directly behind the truck.
The Ohio Trucking Association says freight traffic in the state will increase 50 percent by 2020.

Bring back truck only interstates!!!! That'd cut 70% of truck accidents in a moment!
The problem I see with that is...
Either more roads would need to be built.... which equals more money needed.... which means higher taxes.
Since the roads would be 'for trucks only' who do you think would be paying those taxes?

Where do you think most of the money for the Interstate System comes from?
Hint: Trucks
I realize this Dave. However, if truckers want separate roads, they'll end up paying MORE than they already do now.

Would not a simple reminder of the US hyw system and state roads help with some of the car traffic?
Some of us truckers have leared that some St ways or US hwy are better then interstates for time and miles.
The solution is not seperation. It is education. Cars and large trucks can be safe together on the interstates.
Just for some reason there is not education on the truck side. Most class D drivers have no Idea how much weight a truck hauls. Our limitations and so forth.
They are in a car that can pull the hill not prob. Why can't that big old truck go as fast as them?
They are driving a 200hp 3k SUV. A truck may have 80k on it with only a 400hp. Little bit of a diff.
Most drivers could care less about drivers ed. You can be a trucker buddy for a freshman High school class and visit that drivers ed class.
Think of the education ONE trucker could bring to 6 classes a day for one day a year.

Driver's Ed. NEEDS to be put back into the school systems!
I was rolling around the Atlanta loop a little bit ago and seen a car that had 'Student Driver' plastered all over it.
It was tailgating 3'-4' off the ICC bumper of the truck in front of it at 65 mph. :yikes: :wtf:
The loop has a 55 mph speed zone ALL the way around it.
Nice job of instructing new 4 wheeler drivers 'Ultimate Driving School'. :yikes:
I was too busy watching out for other drivers to be able to get a pic or the phone number off the car. I would've loved to have called the supervisor and filed a complaint.
