i was searching thru trucks on ebay and there are a couple of dealerships that are selling brand new trucks that had flood damage from hurricanes and they fixed them. the current bid on a 06 379 was $47,000 but there was a reserve so i dont know what it will go for. what are you guys thoughts to a salvage title truck?

No, no and NO!

Consider this, flood damaged trucks will have damage cause by contaminated water (oil, sewage, etc......), silt (extremely fine granules of soil), and from sitting so long with these elements corroding every electronic connection and metal part it came in contact with.

My advice would be to walk away.......er......RUN as fast as I could the other direction!

You may be able to get a 'good price' (read CHEAP), but the headaches you'll get by buying one will far outweigh the coming hassles.

Oh, I doubt any truck manufacturer would warranty any of these either.

Just remember the old saying:

Can you say a life time of problems? Why would you want a truck that's had sewage, oil, and any other number of nasty things in it?

Go to OOIDA's website, they had an article in Landline a few months back about these trucks.

check out what warranty they will offer.

check out what warranty they will offer.

I'm sure the warranty won't make up for the down time a person will surely have.

Saw quite a few for sale on a truck salvage site as well, make a GOOD parts truck but too many "WHAT IFS" with the flood damage.

Call the dealer and see if they will sell you one of those trucks to you for $1000 cash up front. If they do then buy it. That way if and when it does leave you sitting at the repair shop you wont have to worry about anything but the bill.

If they won't go for it then move on.

Saw quite a few for sale on a truck salvage site as well, make a GOOD parts truck but too many WHAT IFS with the fllod damage.

The local paper had an article about a local metal treating company that's booming removing the toxic and caustic deposits off shows cars, ornate iron works and other valuable items damaged in Katrina.

Think I'd not even want parts off one of those trucks if it takes stripping it in a metal dipping vat to clean it off.

The article mentioned that certain composite materials couldn't be properly cleaned from the exposure, due to the lack of a suitable process for cleaning and treating those materials.

Thats why the " WHAT IFS FACTOR " as a parts truck I mean for the FRAME , BODY PANELS ecte that can be cleaned up , some only had water damage not all were exposed to toxic waste

yeah i think i am going to scratch the idea of salvage title trucks. they however did say that the truck has been redone and everything works. (so they say) but you are right there are plenty of "what ifs"
