Anyone having problem with their Roady 2 and interference? I've suddenly started getting like an alternator whine over the speakers with just the Roady. It doesn't matter if the truck is running or not. Actually, it's around until the roady fully powers down and the truck is off. In other words, I shut the truck down, then the roady.

Are you using the Roady through the FM modulator, or the cassette adapter?

I have a Pioneer AirWare that makes the same noise when used through a cassette adapter, so I just ordered an adapter to use the AirWare through the Alpine Ai-Net jack on the back of my CD player.

No, I'm using the 1/8" connectors. It's worked fine for over a year now. Now I've got a loud whine.

Have you checked all your connections. It is possible you have had one jiggle loose just a bit.

Yep, the first thing I did.

I google'd my problem and found out this is common. Guess I was luckly I went so long with no probs.

I'm thinking of hardwiring it in with a filter.

Mine started getting bad lately, but I had the original roady, its over 2 years old,so I replaced it.

Even so my Sirius unit using a FM modulator seems to have much better sound, something that stinks cause I listen to the XM most of the time.

I was sitting at a truckstop had both units off but the sterio still on for some reason and someone elses Sirius unit was coming thur loud and clear, someone was listening to Stern in the wee hours of the night,it went away when we took off.

Another thing I've been getting recently is noise from possibly someone elses unit when I'm passing them, its brief but there and its also rare.

Check out www.xmfan.com and you can read the "hardware" section & ask a question. Lots of good technical info there.

Well, today it worked with no problems. Guess this could be a sign it's fixing to go out on me.

The Roady units were designed as an economical "entry-level" XM receiver, and are not exactly the best quality units out there.

The SkyFi units (also made by Delphi) seem to last a long time.

I bought a 1/8 mini jack ground loop isolator from Crutchfield for $19.95. It works like a charm. XM is now loud and clear. Now if I just had time to replace the speakers.

What's that do?

1/8 mini jack ground loop isolator
What's that do?

After the lightning strike on the truck last summer that fried the radio, I replaced it with one that had an 1/8 mini jack in the radio face to hook either an ipod to or the roady to.

All worked well until this fall when I started getting whinning and alternator noise through the 1/8 cable connecting the roady to the radio. So, the raody connects to the ground loop isolator I got from crutchfield, then the cable off the ground loop isolator connects to the radio's 1/8" mini jack. No more noise other than clear music from the XM. :D
