Can an RV, such as a motorhome be written off as a second home? I've heard this in the past, but have never been able to "back it up" by actually seeing it in writing.

yes it can be but only the county or state taxes you pay for it. not the sales tax.
if you rent it out then it becomes income less the items to keep it in shape.

Thanks Frank, but what about interest? Can it be written off the same way as the interest on a mortgage?
Thank you,
Ken

Ken,
yes the interest can be added to the mortgage interest, that is if you do not rent it out, if you do then it has to be on the rental property form Sch #E along with all other expenese.

Thank you Frank. I knew about the sales tax, but was getting conflicting information about the interest on the loan to purchase the rv. Some say an rv "qualifies" as a second home, while other say that is a bit of a stretch and could lead to an audit.
Looking at the IRS website didn't help much either.
Anyway,
Thank you,
Ken
