how long would be reasonable to wash out a 48 foot ribbed floor trailer? This morning I spent over 3 hours at a cost of $145.00 canadian to wash one of our dirty pigs just on the inside!

When I pulled a reefer, unless absolutely necessary, we only washed out at the Spotting Service the meat packing plant we loaded out of used.
Not counting time spent waiting in line, the longest it ever took for them to wash out my reefer was maybe 30 minutes.
Since the company I drove for had an account with the spotting service, I couldn't tell you what it cost for a washout.

I had to do the washing myself, but thats all right seeing how I get paid by the hour. Pulled right into the wash bay no waiting.Sure got the coveralls and hat and face dirty. My company does ltl with these trailers and no one ever sweeps them out so what the problem was somewhere around two years of crap in the ribs(occasional sweeping I guess). The canola plant we haul out of just started with this clean trailer policy.Whatever like I said paid by the hour so just do it  put my 8 in and then its beer time(KOKANEE)

Just had my trailer washed out a week or so ago. I bought it in December. It was fairly clean, then. I was hauling auto parts in it, so it didn't have to be spotless. When I quit doing the auto parts, I had it washed it out on the way home. It took about 20 minutes and cost $ 27.50. Now remember, I hadn't touched this trailer since the end of December. Not even to sweep it out. If you've EVER tried to sweep a reefer out, you know why I didn't even sweep it out.

As long as the trailer isn't really nasty, IE; blood, plant droppings, potatoes on the floor, it really isn't that bad to sweep, with the right broom. We use brooms that have some kind of blue nylon bristles that go right down into the grooves in the floor. It works great for a quick clean up when a wash would be overkill.

Here's a tip I sometimes use. A few places we go to require us to WashOut our trailers. Well, only a few want to see the actual trailer wash receipt for proof. So what I usually do, if I know they want it washed out, but not a receipt, I'll sweep it out really good, then take a gallon of water and dump that on the back 1/5 of the trailer and then sweep somemore. Then dump a bit of water right down the rear rail and close the doors. That way, ya pull up to the Shipper and its "drippin!" :D

I do the same thing, but have a reciept book with me as well. This one place I pick up at, even though there's freight on the truck (they're always the last pick on an LTL), they want it washed just before it gets to their gate and see water dripping outta the trailer and the receipt for the wash before letting you in.

wpmover,
why didn't you just get the pig off of or out of your trailer first, then wash the pig outside on the ground ? This will eliminate all of the dirt having to be rinsed from out of the trailer. I have one question though, why were you trying to wash a pig ?????
