could not back in to one pick up fast enough for shipper so would not load when did get in to door.fleet manager tried to fire me because i was not getting to drops on time.talked to the manager that hired me still have job.not all my fault as truck keeps breaking down.i am supose to get a new pete 379 when i get to bc.they do not allow enough time to get there no allowances for traffic tolls burning up log hours.I am driving all i can everyday. takes me longer to tarp loads as have not done many but i only get paid 30 bucks regardless how long it takes. If does not improve going to ask to go to van side see if can pull a curtainside.

they do not allow enough time to get there
Have you talked to the manager that hired you about this? If you have and still don't get any results, I'd start looking for a different job.

In the mean time, keep running legal. They can't legally fire you for that.

I don't know how new your are to trucking. Very often it takes a newer driver alot longer to get from point A to point B. It's not their fault really it's simply a lack of experience. With time your runs will get easier and the time to get there will get shorter. The same with tarping. Right now your paid $30. for 2-3 hours work and others are being paid $30. for .45 minutes work. It may not seem fair but in a couple months you'll be doing it in 45 minutes and some other new guy will be there for hours.

Experience will eliminate alot of the time frame problems. ;)

This is so true LugNut.

I've been in the trucking industry for over 25 years as a mechanic & shop owner for the last ten.I've only began driving last year.

Over time you'll learn the easiest routes, what lane you want to be in for your next exit plus all the ins & outs of the particular freight you're hauling.Experience takes time.Watch other guys tarp and secure their loads.Pay attention to time saving things they do.Ask questions and sometimes just keep your mouth shut & listen.

still driving i have been given a 2007 pete 379 to drive.now only supose to go out for 14 days.we will see was out for 18 days was told only load that available was going to bc.I did not complain i drove all night gor to shipper and it was for a b train.while waiting my manager who hired me phoned to see how doing.told him my problem about not getting home see they count getting through home as time off.he got me a load going through home.good thing because i reloaded at same place going to the same drop just did.the tarping still sucks but getting faster.Have requested a set of tarps with a smaller drop.if they give will speed up the process.

You'll soon learn how to flip that extra part on the bottom up under the rest of the tarp and tie it down in a flash TM. It takes experience to get the hang of it. One day you'll look back and wonder why you had so much trouble. Just think of it as wrapping a gift. And always keep in mind which way the wind is gonna be blowing. Make the tarp flow in that direction.
One company I worked for only had 8' drop lumber tarps for everything. I soon learned how to make them do the job. It may not have always looked real pretty but it was covered, secure and dry.
