View Full Version : Rode the Lightning

Yesterday while I was at work a guy that has a taser decided to let anyone take a ride on it if they wanted to. Being that I am gonna buy my own, I decided to take a shock by it.
The rumor is true, IT FREAKIN HURTS!!!
It is a pain that I can not describe, but when they cut the power off it felt like I just ran a marathon for about 3 seconds and I was good after that.
The gun I got shot with was a X-26 by Taser. The one I am buying is a M-26. They are similar, but have some differences. They look completely different.
www.taser.com You can go there and see what it does. If I could figure out a way to put the video of me on here I would. I have one of me and a video of another guy that rode it for 5 seconds. 5 seconds isn't a long time, unless you have 50,000 volts running through you.
It was an experience that I am glad I took. The only after effects I have is where the probes were attached. A guy here made clips on the end of the wires so you could use it over and over without having to buy probes each time. Where the clips were attached after I was shot felt like someone put a lit match on me.
--THE FEELING WHEN IT IS ON--
I had my Sergeant on my right arm and another Officer on my left arm. I just stood there and said whenever you are ready. When the power was running through me it locked me up. My whole body flexed up and I couldn't think or function. Then when they cut it off I was wore out for about 2 seconds and back to normal. I could feel the electricity going between the probes. I am not sure if I want to take the full ride just yet, but the 2 seconds I did was enough for me.
CP or anyone else, have you riden the lightning yet? If not, you should try it.

We have had the M26's about a year now. As part of our annual training and weapons refresher we HAVE to take the full 5-second ride! WHAT A TRIP!! The feeling is indescribable, you can't move and it does get your attention! I have had to use it 3 times in the field, 2 intox college kids who thought they were tough guys and once on a 100lb female after I had arrested her boyfriend for beating on her, she attacked me, my partner (K-9) attacked her, she struck my partner I tazered her azz X 3 before we could subdue her. It's always the "little" ones that give us the most s__t!!

They have shown LEO's getting hit on the news here a few times to show what happens when you get zapped. I can see some bonehead suing if a medical problem occurs and quite possibly winning. Would it be reasonable for me to believe that you LEO's get training on when, where, and that sort of thing on the taser's use.

Nope, not yet and have no desire to. :wtf:
Doesn't look like it'll be something I'll ever carry anyway. It is awsome what they can do, and many LEOs owe thier well being to someone having one when needed I'm sure.

I thought the OC spray in the academy was pretty bad - primarily because of the residual effects when sweating several hours later. However, the Taser sound a lot worse & more intense pain - but for a shorter period of time. I never had any exposure to one of them.
Bad as OC was, though, it did not compare to the CS gas chamber I went through during Army training (had it once as a PFC and again as a 2LT). At least OC spray doesn't prevent you from breathing as CS gas does!
From the suspect's point of view, though, I guess anyone who has been "Tased" by police is still better off than if they had been shot with a firearm or given a good beating with a baton. There are many situations where lethal force may be permissible, but the Taser usage lets everyone go home peacefully.
:p
Flying Dutchman; still thinks that officers who deploy them should get zapped so they at least know the effects of 50,000 volts

:wtf: ....I don't think so...I didn't do the pepper spray...we didn't wack each other with our PR-24s...We didn't shoot each other with our side arms, Shotguns or any other gun...why would I want to see what 50,000 volts feel like to the bad guy????... :wtf:

I'm with McGee on this one. However, I was sprayed by my partner one night while taking down a combative drunk. I was able to keep it together til I got the drunk cuffed, then, after I washed my face, my partner( a trainee, and I had a very close and intense conversation. We came to an agreement that he would leave that da-- spray can in the office and get his hands and uniform dirty as long as we worked together.
Oh ya, he bought breakfast the rest of the month also :D .

Ah the joys of CS gas in the gas chamber.. :ninja: :ninja: :ninja: I'll second EVERYTHING FD said about it. Has anyone else had the privilege of being gassed with CG gas???? I think I puked for 2 days every time I got near food.
You guys should get to use CG. It'll make a believer out of ANYONE.

I don't remember what it was called, but back in the late 60's, when I went through basic, that was some pretty nasty stuff...I WAS the last one out of the gas chamber, though...

It was CS Gas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CS_gas)
One of the first things you learn in repairing electronic equipment, you ALWAYS touch an circuit panel or piece of equipment with the BACK of your hand. That way if there is a short you smack yourself in the chest and not latch onto the circuit panel or piece of equipment. Electricity causes muscles to contract. Hence using the back of your hand before starting working on an electrical circuit.
FYI, there is always electricity in a circuit, even with circuit breakers shut off there are traces of current from other wires in the area.
In the Philippines some houses had the shut off switch attached to the ground, instead of the lead hot wire. Changing a light bulb could be a deadly experience. :yikes:
Be safe.

Those x-26's are cool, I think I'll get my wife 1 for home protection. I had gotten her a handheld taser type deal b4, it was a 600,000 volt shocker. She and I offered alot of our friends money to let he hit them with it and no1 bit. We heard that with that many volts it makes ya pass out for an half an hour and piss yer pants. We lost that 1 to the NYPD while delivering a load to FT. Drum,NY, they had just passed a law that made them illegal in NY, even if just used for self defense. I had got it for her, for when we stop at rest areas, cuz for years they had a guy in NY raping women in the restrooms. So now I just want to get 1 for the house, I wish I could carry 1 in my truck, for them weirdo's who try to rob truckdrivers/owner op's.....http://www.expediterworld.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10066/thumb_PIC_0003.JPG
