How is your year going so far? With the price of fuel and all, are you getting miles and pay raises to keep afloat or just getting by and looking to get out of owning your own truck?
Are you keeping busy or just getting by?

hey BP you big ole sweet honeybear you :yikes: --yuk-spit spit---
Oh Ya, your question--- I have done pretty well so far, in fact I see this is going to be a very good year, all things taken into account.
I was a leased O/O & see a great advantage for the small hauler in the future, if they are frugal & smart in handleing their business. So I have quit the lease & have obtained my authority to run in Tx. only. I've been exploring this for some time & it looks like a situation that will work for me. I'll probably be posting how things progress through the rest of the year. I've put my info. out to several brokers & shippers & was happy with their response. I'll be going to work 5-1-06.

Just staying in Texas means you will have much less paper work and tax issues to deal with, you are one of the smarter ones ..... :)

BP- thanks-- that was why I decided on this avenue. Also, it keeps this old fa-t closer to home & will allow for w/e's at the house. That put smile on Oldnurses face :D .
Truckdobe-- Thanks to you & Mike also.... Next time you're in the Dallas area give me a call ( you have the #). It'd be great to get to see you-all again.

A few weeks back I had a "meltdown" over some detention time a shipper refused to pay. It was a bad week and that was enough to push me well over the top. So, I parked it.
Started spreading the word that my equipment was up for sale. A friend called about one of my trailers and asked what was up. Told him about the meltdown and the BS. He inspired me to postpone selling out, and to look for other people to pull for. Seems he had a meltdown about a month before mine and went through the same crap.
I started calling around, and next thing I know, I've got steady freight that pays more than I was getting before!!!!!!!!! Scored!!!!!!

I'm doing OK. My fuel surcharge has been keeping up with the added costs, so that's a non-issue. I can see more reefer freight popping up on Landstar's board, so that's a plus, too. Now if it would go where I want to go.
My truck has been exceeding the 6 mpg I need to keep my fuel cost at .19 per mile, after subtracting the fuel surcharge. I actually made money on this load.

I haven't been doing so well this year. Freight has been slow. It just now seems to be picking up. The fuel surcharge is not keeping pace with the fast rising fuel costs, and what many of our customers are willing to pay to ship their frieght has gone down. As an example, stuff I was hauling for around 1.65/mi net is now paying as low as 1.13. This was primarily due to some lowlife scumbag company offering to haul for .85/mi + FSC! Most of their drivers are eastern europeans from Bosnia and Poland, etc. who have trucks held together with baling wire, and who often run 30 straight hours or more! I hate these guys. I won't even give them the time of day, if asked. These guys are a far bigger threat to this industry than the Mexicans.

Im doing ok as long as i get a fsc and watch where i go and which broker i haul for. ive been sitting all week here in Wa. Cheap and Heavy offered me a load.98 a mile :yikes: and .15 mile fsc :yikes: i dont think so.i finally got a decent paying load. 1.42 a mile back to the East Coast. cant load until Friday. so whats one more day. freight has been slow this year. ive been making it by making ole abe lincoln scream.

I was extremely busy up until the end of 05.
After the new year everything just went flat.January I had absolutely nothing going on.Febuary was better.I took two weeks to go to Florida in the begining of March.Since I got back things have gradually been picking up.
As far as a FSC and my rates I'm ok.Since I only started this in summer of 05 my rates were based on fuel at around 2.80 gallon. Most of the outfits around here that relocate empty trailers do not FSC.I'll probably jump my rates in the next few weeks to adjust for the change in fuel prices.
I'm going to stick with it on my own for a while.I'd rather be able to call my own shots.I see too many company drivers here & on the road complaining about how they're treated.
