Always pre trip. Even when they say you do not have to. Just do it.

Open trailer door. Check for freight. If loaded get a idea how much weight and make sure it is secured.

Check over the inside of the truck. I have never been in a drive test that required a pump down. I never did one as a pre trip either unless it was asked of me.

Do tell the drive test person. That this is a new truck to you and you will have to get used to it. They know that, but want to see how you will handle the stress of it.

All trucks are not the same. You can drive a 2002 Century 10 speed for 1 million miles, get in a different one. They do not always shift the same. Some are tight in the shifter, other real sloppy.

In most cases the person giving the drive test has been in your shoes more then once. They know you may miss a bit and grab a chunk. You have to get used to it.

Most of the time they are looking for your controll of the vehical, not your shifting. It take time to get used to shifting.

By the end of the drive test you should be 50% better shifting it then when you started.

The place I work gives the drive test in the biggest POS you can find.

No clutch break. Bad air leaks and very bad inside. It is the shop truck fro moving trailers.

Back window leaks not only air but you can grab the air lines to change them fast.lol

They can care less how you do your thing, they just HAVE to be sure you can drive. Insurance is huge factor with them. They are a family company.

They run very safe trucks. I mean very safe. The mechanics here must be real gems.

They just test you in a real pile.
