It seems that the 'standard' seats that come in trucks nowdays just aren't as comfortable as we'd like them to be.

What features do you look for when you buy a new seat for your truck and do you have any recommendations?

I just bought a new seat for my truck a couple of years ago. I got the wide seat, upper and lower air lumbar support, reclines. also has a heated seat, yup just push a button and its leather cost $800 installed. Saw a seat at the 75 chrome shop in wildwood,fl $1500 :yikes: it had all the bells and whistles including massage.Bostrom makes an excellent seat.Check out some of the dealers they usually have seats in stock.Sit in the seat and try it out and see how it fits your behind and back. Remember your the one sitting in that seat everyday. You get what you pay for.

Bostrom Wide Ride ( Big Butt Bertha ) seats don't recline nearly enough.

Out one in my KW and regretted it. Changed it out to a KW Premier with all the bells and whistles.

I had Seats Inc. El Camino seats in my International, and they were OK for the money. Much better than the factory Eagle seats were.

The most comfortable seats I have seen by far were in my U.S. Xpress Freightliner Century I drove years ago. They were made by National Seating (if I remember right), and had 6 different adjustments- 5 uppper & lower cushion adjustments & of course the standard heighth adjustment.

My guess is one can score a set of these from any truck salvage yard that has a few wrecked U.S. Xpress Freightliners in there. Grab 'em for cheap & have them re-upholstered in any color you want.

I've had several Seats brand seats and have always had good luck with them, I also like Bostroms and a few others. Probably won't buy Seats again b/c they discontinued the old SLE line (supposedly too expensive) and tried to incorporate the features into a cheaper seat. My SLEs are by far my fav seats, but I'm going with a different brand to get heat and massage as well as a better arm rest position.

I look for:
a wide pedestal (more stability)
adjustable lumbarS, seat front & arm rests

and the new feature on my list is NO base board in the seat, my Seats have the seat cushion over a trampline suspended base, so there is no solid surface to create pressure points as the foam degrades (which it does quickly), luckily this is catching on in other premium seats.

When I had my truck, I bought a slightly used seat from a friend of mine. He gave me a decent deal on it for $125 if I remember right.

Here's what happened and why I got it so cheap.

He had a W900L that was less than 1 year old and the seat base (I presume the suspension part of it), broke. He stopped into Rhim KW in St. Paul. They determined that warranty would cover the needed repairs, but it's take a couple weeks.

Since he couldn't afford to be down that long, he bought another seat.

When his seat came back fixed, he swapped 'em out and stuck the one he had bought in his trailer and took it home.

It sat in his garage for about 1 year before I bought it.

If I remember right, it was a National XLT or something like that. The 'seat' was wider than a 'normal' truck seat. The seat and the back had several air adjustable supports for driver comfort.

One of the best $125 I ever spent.

My buddy just bought a comfort ride with massage and all the bells and whistles. He say's that the massage is the best thing since buttered toast. He said he can drive for 10 hours and get out of the seat and feel great instead of numb. The seats weren't cheap though, about $1600 bucks a piece. I need new seats for my W-900 and am trying to figure out what to get myself. I don't think I want to pay 1600 bucks though.

I am shopping for the right seat for some time, because of my back problems ( already 2 surgeries )
My new truck ( Columbia) has Bostron seats in it and they are killing me.

Could somebody post a link ,so I could see this seats you are talking about?

Thanks

I too am in the search for a new seat . 2 years ago I put in a low-rider Bostrom , I cant take it anymore, I give. I wish I would have spent the extra the first time around maybe for the Comfort Ride or I have heard that KAB makes a high end comfortable seat also. Right now I just don't know what would be the most comfortable for the LEAST BANG....... but I can tell you dont get the low-rider bostrum. It is a really good looking seat , just beats the daylight out of you.

Actually I have had one of the Eldorado seats before , I liked the way it did not rise up when you got out of it as it uses the knee action suspension rather than the parallelogram suspension.I was under the impression that they quit making them.If I'm not mistaken the factory was in Reedsburg Wisconsin. But I'm not sure about the Canadian branch of Seats ??

My new truck has these Nationals
http://www.buytruckstuff.com/product.asp?p_gpID=170&selcategory=16

So far I like them almost as well as my 'Seats' seats. Both of us have back issues and both prefer a firmer molded seat to a large cushie seat. The overstuffed ones don't seem to offer as much support. Our bus had the cushie ones and was a killer 2-3 days into any trip. They were more comfortable on a 2 minute tryout, but day in day out for hours the firm ones are better for us.

I also like Recaro and Isrinhausen.

I been using a 5 gallon drywall bucket upside down with an old throw pillow on it. I can't figure out how to screw the bucket down to the floor. Quick stops usually result in me chipping my tooth on the speedometer.

If you do not mind shopping around...hit the dealers in your area....deals can be found.....our local "Pete" dealer has new "Pete" seats ( customer upgrades or color changes) for great money.......local "sterling'' dealer does the same thing with "taladega" and "Eldorado"'s.....Even the "Mack" dealer can be known to bargain......

Even my boss likes those deals...we have 4 R models with "Pete" classic seats..full armrest kits too.......2 of the drivers even passed up new "Granites"...their "Butts" like "petercare" ;) :) :) :D :D .........

Well I personally like my Bostrum Wide Ride Low Rider black leather seats in my KW, they are the most comfortable seats I've ever sat on. And they tilt back a whole lot, it just depends on the position they are mounted. If ya let all the air out, ya sit on the floor and cant see over the dash. When they are fully inflated, they sit just under the height of a regular seat with the air deflated, no hitting yer head on the ceiling anymore.....and mine have all the bells and whistles too......
