The world of LTL is so much different than it is from truckload work.

I do long haul LTL work. The company I'm leased to 'builds' our loads on our docks and I drag them out from there. The loads I pull usually have around 5-7 drops as an average, but I have had as many as 15 on one load.

If it can fit in a dry van, we'll pull it as long as it isn't HazMat.

I've had drops that only have a little box (about a foot square), big sensitive CNC machines, airplane wings & propellers, a 77' flagpole........all kinds of stuff. :wtf:

I also do multiple stops. I deliver auto parts/ electrical supplies to retail stores each night. Have about 5-6 stops on each load. It does suck when you pull a trailer with barn doors, having to open and close them at each stop, sometimes once each hour. A rollup door is much better. A good thing is I get lots of backing experience.

Some places are pretty small, and you got to back in off busy roads sometimes.

Did a true serve load. IT was backed at dock moved ahead walked to back and got the paperwork looked it was secured with plywood. closed doors went to first drop and there was no wheeler or palletjack. I had to handbomb 48000lbs to back of trailer. 11 stops.

Most of our LTL is normal stuff folks did not want to get a truck load of.

Almost every trailer has some HazMat on it.

I would say 90 of the out bound and in bound trailers have something on them hazmat.

Other wise it is got to go got to go. It is the freight business.

We also use the ten min rule for dock times. None of our stuff has appointments. Once we get there you need to have a dock. After ten mins you can send a truck after your freight to our dock.

Some COD accounts get the freight on the ground. Just push it out the rear and go on with then other 10+ stops.

I'm an LTL driver 90% of the time too. Local multidrops :wacko: :wtf:
