Depends on the job ive seen a newbie get 35-40+ cent per mile.

If everything goes right a newbie could make around $45,000 or so first year, but that is if everything went right which as experienced drivers will say, Murphy is along for the ride too much for that to ever happen.

I have a friend that wants to learn to drive, I cannot use him as my ins. is set up for exp. drivers.anyways he tells me he can make $75,000 the 1st year with a company like Swift,Werner and SNI...OK ,stop laughing, he was told this by a recuiter and he really thinks it is possibly true..

This is getting through the training program and on the road with a trainer then off on solo and $75,000 is very common for any driver that will work...I just do not believe the company recuiters would do the hog wash this bad or do they??

OK I'll bite on this seeing as how I started my illustrious driving career with Jerry's Kids.

Eight weeks with a trainer at $300.00 a week after that it was out on my own at .28cpm.

I supose you could say I got lucky and landed a dedicated account hauling tires for Sams and Wal-Mart after about four months.

Pay went to .32cpm 1st stop free..........every stop after that payed $15.00 and got a total of $100.00 for unloading the trailer.

Some stops may have just 30-40 tires................some stops might have 200+ tires.

This was all hand unload.

No lumpers...driver unload was part of the job.

I made as much if not more on accessory pay as I did my mileage pay.

After about three months I got familiar with the routes and my time management got better and I started averaging close to $700.00 a week.

Thats no where close to $75,000.00 a year.

I would have to go digging for W-2's but I think I made close to $26,000 my first year out.

I promptly got a local job after my first year and my yearly pay has just about doubled.

I would'nt count on 75 grand a year from Swift or any other large training carrier.

10-4!

The ONLY way that I've heard of someone making this kind of cash is some guy posted elsewhere that he hauled cars for Swift......and trained newbies at the same time. Of course he got paid for all miles the truck ran, so he and his trainee ran it like a team.

I've never seen proof of such high incomes.

Like The Gov. said, you have to look at the 'big picture' and see if the prospective company has what you need! Home time, pay, bennies, etc..........

somewhere in the fine print in his contract it must say he has to wash and wax every tractor in the terminal yard by hand during his 34-hour resets at $.05 per square foot of surface area, to include what's visible only with the hood up

Been driving for almost five years now and I'm on target to gross just over $60K this year.

Thats well short of $75K............but I still can afford good scotch and get to eat a ribeye every now and then. ;)
