The first time since I went on my own, I'm sitting overnite w/o a load  .. Had a good paying load from Irving to Laredo but there is nothing to load in Laredo over $1.45/mi. & I don't load for much less than $2.00/mi.. I knew it would happen one day but it's still a bummer.
I'm sittin here at the 39X north of Laredo & hope something turns up in the AM.. I refuse to stay at that hole at X13.

I don't blame you for going north to park for the night!
The one at exit #4 in Laredo is usually infested with LOT LIZARDS! :yikes:
There appeared to be a new truck stop being built on Mines Road about 5-6 miles north of Loop 20 last time I was in Laredo (over a year ago). It's near the LandStar yard on the right as you're going north.

Yaa -- I don't stay in town at all--- There is new J being built across from the Pilot at X13 but it's not open yet. Also TA is saying they are putting one in there also but construction hasn't started yet.

It does happen to everyone eventually out here getting stuck somewhere like Laredo. I have learned from experience to plan way head if I have to go to area like FL, Ca, WA, OR,AZ, MN, and yes places like Laredo. I will call brokers that I use reguarly just as soon as I have my appt's in hand and stay in touch and let them know I'm on schedule.
I have also found that it is cheaper to deadhead than to sit 3 or 4 days waiting on a load. While your sitting there waiting your still idling to stay cool or warm, still gotta eat and shower. I'll look for a partial just to pay the fuel to a better freight area but if it s a cheap partial I'll deadhaed first rather than waste my time. If a broker mentions Laredo to me I say no cuz theres no freight coming out of there, no decent place to park, might get up in the am and find my truck sitting up on blocks and all the lights missing off my trailer.Add your loaded and empty miles then divide that into what the load is paying and ask yourself can I live with that rate.

Sunshine, Bob runs a reefer, and is mostly in Texas so he can't always plan that far ahead.
I'm kind of leary abut parking in Laredo myself, especially after a friend of mine came out of the Pilot after a shower & saw that someone had helped themselves to both of the Vortox air cleaners on his Kenworth, and his Alpine CD player.
It was NOT a good day for him, as his trailer was LOADED and he had to go to Salt Lake City. He couldn't find replacement air cleaners in Laredo. Someone else he knew in San Antonio was nice enough to go by the KW dealer there after work, and then take the parts to him in Laredo that evening so he could get going. After that, he NEVER left his truck unattended in Laredo, or any border town ever again.

Sorry Sunshine-- I didn't give enough info. for an informed reply. I have been running here quite a bit lately & have always had good paying loads out.
Archa Childers, McGees daughter, has been chasing loads for me for the last 6 weeks & she has done a wonderful job for me. It just happened that there was only very cheap loads yesterday. If things don't look better today I'll bounce N or home & get the rig serviced tomorrow.
