I will be completing my driving school next week and hopefully get my CDL. I plan on taking a vacation and head to Florida. Upon return to Calif, I will go work for an OTR company as a student driver. They pay by comdata card. I was told all lumper fees, truck washes, tolls and scale fees would be paid by me and they would reimburse on my comdata card upon receiving receipts. All receipts and invoices are sent by Transflow.
Can someone explain how the comdata card, what costs are there to using the card. I was told by the recruiter that I get one free transfer each week from comdata to my checking account, so I can transfer money into my checking account. The recruiter said they were unsure about other expenses. I thought comdata charged a fee for every use, I need to find out if the company will reimburse me for the comdata fee's on top of the lumper, scale or toll fee. Is there a website for comdata that I can check on. Thank you, Wayne

That one is easy. You guessed it: http://www.comdata.com
As far as the fees, it depends upon exactly what comdata card you have. They vary from service to service. Your company should have a list of what fees are charged for what.

Make sure that you keep a close eye on your weekly settlement sheets! Yeah, they told you they'd reemburse you, but YOU need to make sure they do every payday!

Make copies. Originals have a tedency to acidently get lost or "we never recieved them"
This is my personal opinion. But I would have one transfer from comadata to my personal checking account. Why? Everytime you swipe that comdata card it leaves a paper trail. When comdata sends a copy of the settlement sheet with your card# on it there is a date time and location. They will match it against your logbook.
Another reason is I dont beleieve you can use comdata as a debit card to pay for purchases at WalMart etc. One transfer no fee. You can write your ATM fees off on your taxes. Make sure you have a debit card thats attached to your checking account. Its nobody's business in that office on how many advances I take or where I take them from.
Do keep an eye on your settlement sheet. Thats why copies are important
I have caught my company acidently take out too much for insurance and not pay me on a load.
This brings one other thing to mind. Always put your trip# or pro# on your bills and other recipts that you turn in.Thats how they identify who done what load. If they "lose" paperwork you have something to go buy Everyone of those trip# is logged in the computer when the load is dispatched.

Each company has it's own policy and charges for Comdata usage. With Landstar, I have my pay on the settlement card and then I transfer it to my checking account. I can also use my card in the ATM for cash. This way I have cash if I need it.
I agree that copies should be kept and close scrutiny paid to your settlements.
Good luck

My company has agreat way on how we get paid.
First they have the direct deposit system, then as a added bounus, they use US Banks, Accella Pay. It's a Visa Debit card. U can have your entire settlement depoisted there, or split it up with your checking/ savings account
As for comdata card, we can draw a percentege off our card on each trip. It's costs us one dollor to do that, and we dont get it back. So i rarly use my comdata card for cash, strictly fuel only.
Same way with Tchks one dollor to use for cash. So i don't use them either.

When I was at R&D, they also paid on the Comdata card. Use your free weekly transfer to move all your money to your checking account. If you are a company driver, your employer is responsible for those other expenses, like lumpers. Do not front your money!!!! They are running their business out of the driver's pockets, and making you responsible for turning in paperwork to get YOUR MONEY back from them. And, like mentioned above, paperwork gets lost.
This system is a bad idea, except for the company and comdata, who collect fees and for allowing you to access what is yours.

I leave as much of my money as possible in my company account, as it pays an interest rate of Prime plus a point. Last I checked, that was around 9%. If my company wants to use my money at a 9% interest rate, more power to them.

Sounds like a good way for the company to "screw" you by having so many transactions on a card every week, it would be easy to hide reimmbursements.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY----THERE ARE MORE COMPANIES OUT THERE!!!
If the company does'nt have the resources to bank their cash and pay by payroll check, plus, give you a book of ComChecks for lumpers (which by the way can and will charge you up to $300 for one load), then, in my eyes, they are looking to scam you by using your pay to finance their operations.
Do what you want to do-----I'm saying, if they'd have tried to sell this load of garbage to me, I'd have laughed in their face.
Good luck.
