Default Truck driver busted for hauling cat food, pot

Motor Transportation Police Officers in Lordsburg detected more than 400 pounds of marijuana hidden in a load of cat food Saturday. The officers found the bundles of cellophane-wrapped marijuana during a safety inspection.

Truck driver Dwight M. Grant, 38, of Hempstead, Texas pulled into the Lordsburg port of entry for an inspection just after 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. During the cargo verification, MTPD officers located 10 boxes of pot stashed among the load of cat food, totalling 414 lbs.

Grant was arrested and turned over to the DEA for further prosecution. He is facing charges of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute.
The load was picked up in California and was headed to Atlanta. The estimated street value was more than $620,000.

Cool Re: Truck driver busted for hauling cat food, pot

Well Iv'e been out of the dry van business for many years now but it always did bother me a little when I was given a trailer that someone else loaded and I wasn't able to verify the contents. The worst ones were the overseas containers that where coming from south american countries with bannanas and other types of fruit. I was told one time that if approached on the road and demanded to hand over the container that I should do so without hesitation and this was back in the 80s.

Glad to see that I am not the only one who was slightly concerned about what else might be loaded in the trailer. The ones that really bothered me were the ones coming out of Mexico heading for someplace like Chicago and had bolt seals on them.
